How would you like to spend Christmas on Christmas Island - First at Townsville show!

This is my most recent work. First in the Fine Arts section of the Townsville Show this year!
The category was a song title. Every Sunday on Australia All Over everytime refugees are mentioned Macca plays Col Joy's "How'd you like to spend Christmas on Christmas Island".
Besides the song getting into my head for the rest of the day, I also imagined what it must really be like, so I just painted it as I imagined. In the top right hand corner is a Christmas Island postage stamp. Even though the judges didn't like that touch, I do. What do you think?

I also won a third place, a photo of which I will post at a later date.

The Townsville Show

I have entered three paintings in the Fine Arts section of this years Townsville Show. There were a number of topics to choose from; Song Titles, which I have entered two paintings in and the other, Native Birds of Townsville, which I have entered one painting in.

The Show runs from the 2nd to the 5th of July 2010 at the Townsville Showgrounds.

Fingers crossed!

More commissioned work...

Charlie Chaplin is probably one of my favourites. I did this poster of a faux galvanised iron fence, with a black surround and framed. I have actually done this a few times.

Kiwi Boot Polish. I have also painted this on an old boot polish box. I didnt realise their legs spelt our Kiwi until I had finished painting it. This was also done of a faux paling fence with black surround and framed.

Air Training Corps.

Navy

Matchless. The reason I like old posters so much is that time seems to stand still. The artists who did them really capture the era they were done in.

Wirths Circus

This was one of the first poster copies I did. It won first prize at the Hawkesbury Show some years ago now, but it sparked my interest in all old posters. The background is on a faux paling fence, black surround, and framed.

These are commissioned paintings that I loved doing. They now hang in a beautiful home, northwest of Sydney.

Recent work

Acrylic on canvas.

The four paintings here are copies of Alfons Mucha a famous French Art Nouveau artist. He did a lot of poster illustrations for magazines and fashion journals. He also designed posters for theatre, Sarah Bernhardt was his favourite.
